Researchers once thought that the use of electronic devices among children and teenagers could not go up. They were wrong:
The average young American now spends practically every waking minute — except for the time in school — using a smart phone, computer, television or other electronic device, according to a new study from the Kaiser Family Foundation...
While most of the young people in the study got good grades, 47 percent of the heaviest media users — those who consumed at least 16 hours a day — had mostly C’s or lower, compared with 23 percent of those who typically consumed media three hours a day or less. The heaviest media users were also more likely than the lightest users to report that they were bored or sad, or that they got into trouble, did not get along well with their parents and were not happy at school.

I personally only use any electronic devices for about 3-5 hours a day or maybe even less, im not real sure. I think this trend is bad in a way because teens and children are more worried about using their phone or computer more than homework or studying for exams. Also this things make teens lazy....especially the Xbox 360. Every class that i have at school i hear kids talking about it all the time. That time could be spent looking for a job or reading a book.

Im on my phone atleast 12 hours every day, and i listen to my ipod and play games on it for like 2 hours a day. im never on my computer because i have it on my ipod. im mainly on aim and facebook. that's about it.i think the more electronic devices the more lack of studies. Like im on electronioc devices pretty much all day and i have horrible grades.
ReplyDeleteI am above average. I think the increase would be good but yet then again not. I think this because on the good side there advancing technology and making it easier to search and do things. On the bad side its distracting students from school work and workers in the work field. Positive aspect once again advancing Technology, also they are setting new trends and making money off of it. Negative would be DISTRACTION from daily lives. This is a big one I think.

ReplyDeleteMy media usage is below avarage the only time that I stay up late and play my xbox is on the weekends. I think it has a netral effect, not good or bad.
ReplyDeleteI think the media usage is a good thing. Everything now is mostly computerized or something like that. It is better to learn now while were young and in school to get used to it instead of trying to learn new things all at one time later. I think that there are more positives than there are negatives in this situation. It's just all simple, easy, and fast to use.
ReplyDeleteI think i am below the average, I might get in the computer once a day to check my myspace but i do text quite often. the increased use of electronic devices is bad because less and less people are getting out and doing stuff because they always have their faces in the computer or in the cell phones.
ReplyDeleteWell I personally do use a lot of my free time on the computer. Although its not because im sad or not likeing school but because im bored. There is never anything better to do. Although i do believe a lot of kids do use it because their a bit depressed and dont wanna have to deal with people.As for the grades i dont blame the electronics. I maintain good grades while i enjoy the electronics.Its all just opinions.
ReplyDeletei usually dont use the internet, but i spend a lot of my time on my phone, and thats not true, im on my phone a lot and my grades are higher thaan a C average, but I do agree that technology is usually the reason why I am not getting my work done as fast as I could, but hey everyone has there downfalls.
ReplyDeletei think im below the average of media usage. i dont really go online a whole lot and when i do im not on for very long. i do text alot though but i dont spend my whole day texting like some people do. i think media can be a good thing if people would stop abusing it. people spend way too much time on the internet or texting and if they would slow down and do something else then it media would be a good thing
ReplyDeleteI am average, I honestly don’t think it matters because we use our electronic in school to and I don’t see anyone complaining about what I’m doing. There are some negatives to this like kids not doing school work, but they shouldn’t be doing that because of electronics some kids don’t even care.
