2/19/10 - Digital_Nation Question 3

From training soldiers to dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to conducting combat operations remotely from half way around the world, technology is changing the way we wage war.

How has technology helped our military?  What new challenges is it creating?

  1. it has helped the military in many ways. it helps a lot more young adults to be interrested in the military. the plan that the military had was to encourage people to join the military.

  5. i think that the idea of killing people a half a mile a way is a lot better than the pysical stuff like killing people in the flesh with a assualt rifle. I can understand the emotional stuff but to kill some one a mile a way wihout even realy making out there face is alot better than to watch another human die. the emotional problems with drone operaters are not mager thay can accept this abillity to be a button away from killing some one. When the watching of some one dieing becouse of you can eat you up inside like a disease.

  6. Technology has helped war by allowing us to pin point enemies from 4,000 miles away, and also we can kill enemies from 4,000 miles away by using Predator Drones. it also created new challenges by the struggle of people going home at the end of a long day and having to tell your kids that you've killed alot of people today with Predator Drones. And parents are mad at the fact the the military is using video games to pretty much encourage children to sign up for the military.

  8. I believe that using technology to help soldiers with Post Dramatic Stress really helps them get through there disorder. I also believe using simulation can better train our soldiers in a combat situation becuase you can press resent on technology not real life. Using technology halfway across the world to take out enemies is also helping our future. It's helping our future because it keeps the soldiers home and foot mobiles of the ground.

  10. This is in response to to ethans post.
I enjoyed reading his comment. I also think it is better to use the drones then to send in people.

  11. Well I think these video games are way better than killing a real person. These games I think help kids know the consequence and the responsibilty of war and guns. It shows them what happens and what the side effects are. They dont just get to hear about it. They can see it visually.

  13. I am commenting on behalf of Coutland Pannebaker, I do believe that the increase in technology has help our soldiers. The better guns and better medicine keeping our soldiers alive. With the better tactics and GPS system we have kept our soldiers out of harms way.

  15. I agree to Eathan Miller's response because it is much safer to be at a distance, less of our soldiers would die and they wouldn't have to go halfway around the world and have to leave their families to protect our country.

  16. I think technology did help our military out alot by giving them examples on how the enimies could just jump out of know where and how to identify them before you shoot anyone. Some new challanges i think this is creating is how to compare it to the actual thing. Right now they may think it's the easiest thing but then when they get over to where they are suppose to be it's totally different and they are unprepared.
