A New Strategy
This week President Obama announced his new strategy for fighting the war in Afghanistan. Since then there has been no shortage of political commentary on the subject. I have chosen three articles, all with very different points of view for you to read.
The first article by Bob Herbert (A Tragic Mistake) argues that President Obama's plan is a mistake. The next article by Charles Krauthammer(Uncertain Trumpet) is also critical of the President's plan, but for a completely different reason. The last article (Surge, Then Leave) by David Ignatius is in favor of the President's strategy.

i think that Obama has a bad idea of sending 30,000 more troops over. People voted him for presidnt bacause they though Obama was going to bring home the troops. but now he want to send 30,000 more over and i dont think that it is a very good idea.
ReplyDeleteI think Obama's plan is clearly the wrong thing to do. He should just have the troops leave Iraq totally. Most of the people over there dont want this and its just a group of people that did it. We should have just caught the guys that did it, then problem resolved. And as for when people say other countries want us to win and that their for it all to then why dont they help? People say they help our troops, although the real reason is probably just because they dont want to be embarrassed when they know were gonna either lose or else were already financially in debt. If i was from another country i woulnt help us either.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don’t know what to think about Obama’s decisions. Like part of me wants to just break down and cry, because I know it’s hard for our family, and friends to go over there. I don’t think it is very fair that we are still at war after nine years. Then again if this will help and get it over with I would like them to go over, because as soon as they get over there, the sooner they can come back.
ReplyDeleteI think that Obama’s plan is not the best choice. Yes it might have worked in Iraq but this is a different time. If we send more people over there that just means that we have a better chance of losing a greater number of people. When the 18-months are up, what is going to happen? Are they going to just wait and attack us again? It is a possible that by making this speech that they will know about it and will not fight there hardest. Then after we leave over there they could bomb us again. There for I think we should take our out slowly and not put any more over there
