Developmental Psychologist Says Teenagers Are Different
Laurence Steinberg (above) is a developmental psychologist at Temple University in Philadelphia and one of the leading experts in the United States on adolescent behavior and adolescent brain biology.
In this short interview in the NY Times, Dr. Steinberg says that "when it comes to crime, [teenagers] are less responsible for their behavior than adults. And typically, in the law, we don’t punish people as much who are less responsible."
Do you agree with Dr. Stienberg's opinion that we should not punish teenagers in the same way as we punish adults for the same crime? Explain your position.

I dont think that kid should get life in prison for raping a women, i mean I know he was in the wrong but he shouldn't have to pay life in prison for it. life in prison is a cruel penalty for minors. The kid was not thinking like an adult at the time.
ReplyDeletei do not agree with Laurence Steinberg unless it is a petty crime but if a yougner person commits a large crime like murder than yes they should be punished because although they may not know its completly wronge if they just leave prison withought punishment then theyll just do it again because they know theyll not get i n trouble so i do not believe what this doctor on brains is saying
ReplyDeleteI think that he is correct in his theory that a teenages brian is under developed
ReplyDeletein my mind i agree with this doctor. most of my friends change as there lives go on.then in the later part of there years they tend to calm down more.
