Did it help you to better understand gerrymandering and redistricting? Do you think I should continue to use it in Civics next year? Why or why not?

When i first heard gerrymandering i didn't have a clue what it was. After playing this game I had a complete turn around. Now i know mostly all about gerrymandering and how redrawing the lines of districts to favor a certian group is unfair. I think that thisgame should be keep for future classes becuase it's a little different than book work and it's fun to play.
ReplyDeleteI absolutly hated it! I twas so stupid. I mean not everyone plays games and can master something like this. I think it did explain what it was a little more. But I think you could have done just a well enough job showing us. I dont think you should do this to the kids next year. The only reason kids in my grade liked it is because it was a game and you didnt have to teach anything new with it.
ReplyDeleteThe game did help me to understand how to redistrict. It was hard to solve some of them but if you read than it was easier to understand how to complete it. I think you should keep it in Civics for next year because it is a hands on way of learning how to redistrict and I know some people enjoyed being able to get on the computer and play a game. Also I think the points should be different because was very hard for some people to complete the task. Not everyone is the same.
ReplyDeleteThis did not help me understand gerrymandering any better. I thought this game was hard and it took me forever to complete. It is up to you if you want to continue that for next year but I don't recommend it. Maybe students should have an option to do this, or not. If they're interested they will probably be able to complete it easier, unlike me who wasn't interested very much and was harder to complete.
ReplyDeleteI learned from this game is there is a lot of give and take in goverment to try to balance things out. And if it is not balanced someone is going to cause a commotion and everyhting is going to be messed up. So I do think that the game is good because it shows how the goverment realy works.
ReplyDeletekinda. it was better than doing book work.
ReplyDeleteThis game helped mo to understand what gerrymandering actually was. Even when we learned it in the book I still didn't understand. I think this game should be used in Civics next because it helped me learn abut gerrymandering. No, it was NOT a fun game and was challenging, especially the second level, but it did help kind of like those annoying songs people make up to help remember things. The negative influence just HAS to stay in your brain.
